Cooking our meals

A cold, raw meal may be appealing to dogs in the HK summer heat- but when winter rolls around, a hearty warm meal hits the spot.

First, it is important to note that cooked bones should NEVER be fed. They splinter more easily than raw bones and pose much higher risks- more on feeding raw bones here.

If you would like to cook meals containing raw bones, you must REMOVE THE BONES first.

Meals without raw bones can be gently cooked up to 100C before feeding. You must take care to retain all the fluids during cooking. This way, there will not be an overly significant impact on nutrient levels during the cooking process. There are three methods of doing this:

1. Steaming (most recommended!!)

  • Pour the contents of the bag into a heat-safe bowl or deep dish.
  • Steam the meal.
  • You may steam it as long as you like, for varying levels of done-ness.
  • Let cool before serving.

2. Boiling

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  • Place the entire meal pack (including the bag) into the boiling water.
  • You may boil it as long as you like, for varying levels of done-ness.
  • Let cool before serving.

3. Microwave

  • Pour the contents of the bag into a microwave-safe bowl or deep dish.
  • You may microwave it as long as you like, for varying levels of done-ness.
  • Let cool before serving.

It is VERY important to let cool before serving!!!

The first method is the most recommended. Regarding the second method, we use only heat-safe vacuum sealed bags, but we cannot guarantee that any undesirable substances may be leached into the food when boiled. Microwaving tends to cook things unevenly, as our meals contain various ingredients with different density.
